Two years ago I experienced a health crisis that was the most terrifying experience of my life. I found a solution and I want to share it with you.
In August 2009 I experienced severe vertigo. Although I didn’t know it at the time, this was to start me on a very exciting raw journey to health.
I had many ailments including:
- hypothyroidism – underactive thyroid gland which causes fatigue, irregular menstruation, cold intolerance and, untreated, leads to coma and death
- spondylosis – degenerative osteoarthritis of the neck joints causing neck pain and restricting neck movement
- carpal tunnel syndrome – swelling in the wrists compressing the median nerve which causes wrist pain, weakness and numbness in thumb and fingers
- arthritis – inflammation of the joints causing mobility problems and pain
- vertigo – I was so dizzy I couldn’t walk in my own home without holding onto the furniture and even a lie down in bed didn’t help because it felt like I was on a boat in a stormy sea
My family doctor gave me medication
Hospital consultants examined me
I had an MRI because they thought I had a brain tumour
It was the most scary time of my life!
Then on November 18th 2009 I had some answers…I was told that my dizziness was being caused by Menieres Disease, brought on by an ear infection. It is a disorder of the inner ear, which affects hearing and balance to varying degrees, characterised by episodes of vertigo and tinnitus and progressive hearing loss. There is no cure. Consultants recommend attempting to reduce the severity of the symptoms by reducing salt intake and cutting out caffeine.
I contacted the Menieres Society and found out people had been living like this for years.
But that was not an option for me. I knew a life like this wasn’t really living.
I decided to find myself a cure…
After hours and hours of research I found that a diet of raw foods could be the answer. But I didn’t know how I would be able to live without crisps, chocolate and the other unhealthy foods that were part of my regular (unhealthy) diet.
December 2009 I developed a ‘transitional plan’ from my current diet with all the foods I loved to the foods I knew would make me healthy. By Christmas I had lost 9lbs in weight and was starting to feel alive.
On January 1st 2010 I pledged to be as 100% raw as possible for 30 days.
Guess what?
After 30 days I was off the Menieres medication as ALL the symptoms had disappeared, I could walk and lie down like a normal person.
My daily dose of Thyroxine was reduced from 125 mcg a day to 75mcg. That was the first time in 10 years that the dosage had been reduced instead of increased!
ALL the symptoms of my Arthritis, Carpal Tunnel and Spondylosis disappeared!

After 30 days of this super healthy diet, I ordered and ate a Chinese takeaway. I couldn’t finish the meal as it seemed so salty and sickly sweet and made me thirsty. The next day I felt really ill. The aches and pains returned, plus I gained weight!
It took 7 whole days to flush those toxins out of my system and get back to feeling well again. Never again!! I have remained on the raw vegan road since then.
Eating raw food gives your body the optimum fuel to function properly. But it can seem very alien and an impossible way to eat when you lead a busy modern life.
However, I am going to show you how I did it. By the way, after being on this diet for only 5 months I lost an incredible 66 lbs and at the age of 56 I never thought I would ever be this slim or be complimented on how young I look!
